• “Opiates” immunoassay uses antibodies for morphine metabolites

• Will detect natural and some semisynthetic opioids

  • Heroin

    • Heroin metabolizes to 6-monoacetylmorphine followed by  morphine. You can test for heroin use by testing for 6-monoacetylmorphine.

  • Morphine

  • Codeine

• Will not detect synthetic opioids

  • Fentanyl

  • Buprenorphine

  • Tramadol

  • Hydrocodone  

  • Oxycodone

• Substances that cause False- Positive Morphine UDS

  • Poppy Seeds (metabolize to morphine)

  • Ofloxacin

  • Rifampin

  • Fluroquinolone
